Growth Management Department Director Retires after Three Decades of Service

Posted on July 1, 2021

It isn’t very often that we learn about what our alumni do after retiring from a job. Nicki van Vonno, class 14, retired after managing the Martin County Growth Department for 21 years. As a Certified Planner she focused on amendments to the County’s award winning comprehensive plan, improving the development review process, sober house and medical marijuana regulations and the promotion of eco-art and agritourism. Under her leadership the county received numerous awards from the National Association of Counties.

In July 2020 Nicki established van Vonno Consulting, LLC. where she is currently doing consulting work for the City of Port St. Lucie but can work in other areas of the Treasure Coast. She continues to volunteer in the community and now serves on the Martin County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and the Library Board of Trustees. As a book lover, she collects books for the Golden Gate Community enrichment Center and volunteers at the Friends of the Library Book Depot. Amazing how busy we are when we retire.
